Austin is a city located in the U.S. State of Minnesota, in Mower County.
According to the U.S. Census of 2000, its population was 23,314 inhabitants. In 2006 it was estimated to have a population of 23,331, an increase of 17 (0.1%25). The city’s southern region belongs to the Township of Austin, while the northern region belongs to the Lansing Township; the city is independent from both politics. Austin is situated at the junction of two high ways.
The town is the place where Hormel’s corporate headquarters is situated and the city is their main production facility, food processing plays a dominant role and is main part of the city's economy.
The main corporate of Hormel is the Processors of Hormel and Quality Pork, so it is considered as the biggest employer in the city of Austin. The other employment sectors of the city include education, government, retail sectors, and hospitality.
