Until 1877, this city was a part of Anoka city in Minnesota. As per the US Census Bureau, it has a total area of 34.0 square miles of which water is 0.2 square miles and land is 33.8 square miles.
In 1880, the population was 128. By 1950, it reached to 1,694 and in 1970, it was 20,640. The population of this city as of 2000 was 44,942 people. It was estimated to 54,020 in 2005. As of 2009, Blaine has a population of 55,415 people. And since 2000, it has had a growth in population of 22.70 percent.
