Duluth has been linked to Atlantic Ocean at the western corner of Lake Superior’s north shore. It is, in fact, western-most ‘deep-water port’ of Atlantic Ocean.
Duluth goes on to form a ‘metropolitan area’ with ‘Superior, Wisconsin’. Known as Twin Ports, the above-mentioned twin cities go on to share ‘Duluth-Superior harbor’. Together, they are amongst the most significant ports on Great lakes, dealing with shipping of coal, grain, and taconite, i.e. iron ore.
The name ‘Duluth’ has been derived from ‘Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut’, i.e. the 1st known explorer of European origin to have visited this region.
As per US Census Bureau, area of Duluth on the whole is 226.2 sq. km; out of which 22.11%25 consists of water.
The population as per 2000 census was 384000.
