The present scenario is such that Fergus Falls features several diverse stores, parks, and many other places of interest.
The ‘falls’ through which city has obtained a portion of its nomenclature had been discovered by none other than Joe Whitford, i.e. a trapper of Scottish origin. This happened in the year 1856. Moreover, it had been promptly named to have honored his employer, i.e. James Fergus.
The dams constructed on Otter Tail River starting in 1880s had been powerful financial forces; that helped a great deal in development of class structure and culture in this region. Soldiers who had returned from ‘American Civil War’, of British extraction, in particular, went on to settle rapidly in this region; especially for farming; such as corn and wheat in Western plains and hogs and dairy in Eastern forests and hills; thereby having filled vacuum that was created by Sioux uprising.
The population as per 2000 census was 13471.
