Mankato is a city situated in Blue Earth County in the state of Minnesota in U.S.A. The city lies at the junction of the Blue Earth River and the Minnesota River and covers a total area of 15.4 sq miles. As per the 2006 census the city had a population of 35,493 people. The city has been designated as the fourteenth Most Livable Metropolitan City in the Nation. The city is well known for its parks and trails.
There are breathtaking landscapes with a number of ravines, rivers, lakes, natural prairies and forested areas in the region. Mt. Kroto is a place one can visit for skiing and lies just one mile from Mankato. Winter Solenoid is an annual celebration held on the coldest day of the year in December where fireworks are displayed over the Minnesota River. The climate is cold with an average snowfall of 52 inches and rainfall of 29 inches.
