Minnetonka is a suburban city in Hennepin County. This city is eight miles to the west of Minneapolis. The word “Minnetonka” comes from the Dakota Indian name, “mni tanka”meaning “great water.
The population of Minnetonka as per the 2000 census was 51,480 people making it the 14th largest city in Minnesota. As of 2009, the city has a population of 50,329 people. Compared to the 2000 census, it has had a population growth of -2.68 percent.
As per the US Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 28.2 square miles, of which 27.1 square miles is land and the other 1.1 square miles is water.
Minnetonka gets 35 inches of rainfall and 55 inches of snowfall per year. It gets measurable precipitation of 122 days. Overall, there are 200 sunny days each year in this city. The month of July is known as the warm month of the year with 81 degrees and the month of January is low and cold month of the year with 6 degrees.
