Rourke Art Museum is situated in the Moorhead Post Office building and the Rourke Art Gallery lies in the 1875 Martinson House. Both these cultural institutions host the Midwestern Invitational exhibition per year, which displays an art collection from various national, regional and local artists. The Hjemkomst Center is a historical museum which contains a model of the Viking ship which was built by an inhabitant of Moorhead and sailed to Norway by his children. In the lower level of the museum there are over thirty thousand artifacts and pictures displaying the history of Clay County. In the compound of the museum lies the Stave Church built in traditional Norwegian style.
A 45 minute pontoon ride on the Red River is a great experience as one is guided about the history, geography and the wildlife of the place. One can enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the river as well. Comstock Historic Site has guided tours of the renovated house which was built by Solomon Comstock who established the Moorhead State University and the 1st National Bank.
