Northfield city is in Dakota and Rice counties in Minnesota. Most part of the city lies in Rice County, and a small part of the city extends into Dakota County. Founded in 1855 by John W North, the city was an agricultural center earlier with lots of corn and wheat farms.
As per the 2000 census, the population was 17,147 people. By 2009, the population reached to 19,331 people.
