Biloxi is located at 30°24′43′N 88°55′40′W and has an elevation of 20 feet. Biloxi is located 70 miles northeast of New Orleans on a peninsula between Biloxi Bay and the Mississippi Sound on the Gulf of Mexico. The city has a total area of 46.5 mi², of which 8.5 mi² is water. Biloxi has a moist semitropical climate. Cyclones may occur during June through November. Average Temperatures are: January 50.8°F, July, 81.7°F, and average Annual rainfall: 61 inches. The population in Biloxi was 50,644 people in 2000 as per the census.
The racial makeup of the city was 71.43% White, 19.04% African American, 0.49% Native American and 5.11% Asian. Biloxi offers an exciting mix of southern hospitality and coastal entertainment. The Mardi Gras celebration and the nightlife in Biloxi are comparable to that of New Orleans. It was once the dominion of the Native American culture. Since Americanization and black slavery took place, residents have moulded Biloxi into a melting pot of traditions and entertainment.
