Hattiesburg is also known as the “The Hub City” located in Lamar and Forrest Counties in Mississippi. It is also the principal city of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is positioned at the folk of the Bouie and Leaf rivers founded in 1882. The city was incorporated in 1884 with a population of only 400 people. The city gained its nickname, the hub city in 1912 as a result of a contest in a local newspaper. 

Hattiesburg is a good place to live in with its moderate climate. The average maximum temperature of the city is 39.4 in the month of January and the average minimum temperature is in July with 70.5. The average precipitation in January is 5.47 and in July it is 10.52. Snowfall is rare but in December 2008 this city received snowfall of 5 inches.
As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 49.7 square miles with 49.3 square miles of land and 0.4 square miles of water.
