Despite being about 75 miles inland, this city was hit hard by the 2005 Hurricane Katrina. Around 10,000 structures in the area received major damage. However, there are places of interest to see like the Hattiesburg Zoo at Kamper Park which is the longstanding tourist attraction in the city.
Other than this, one can visit the Timberton Golf Club, the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum, the Hattiesburg Country Club, Canebrake Golf Club and also the Shadow Ridge Golf Club. The Historic Library is a 2 story brick building built in 1929-30 with Italian Renaissance to it. This library serves as the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.
One can also visit the Galley RX, which has displays of contemporary art by national and international artists. There are photography, sculptures and paintings too which interests the visitors. If one is interested in Shopping, then he can visit the small and large shopping malls which are situated in the city.
