Starkville is also home to the famous Mississippi State University which is situated on the eastern side of Starkville. The university is the state’s largest university and also dictates the economy of Starkville. The university is the largest employer in the city with around 1300 staff. Dudy Gras Parade, Johnny Cash Flower Pickin' Festival, Cotton District Arts Festival, is some of city’s major events.
