Cape River Heritage Museum is a historical museum which exhibits the history of the state of Missouri, the early history of Cape Girardeau and the Mississippi River. Cape Rock Park Lookout is a scenic route which marks the location of Jean B. Girardot’s trading post in 1730. It provides picturesque sights over the Mississippi River. Southeast Missouri State University Museum is an archeological museum with displays of fine art, historical and archaeological collections. There are paintings, pottery, glass porcelain and art collections found here.
Trail of Tears State Park is a natural area with a bird sanctuary and a wildlife spot. There are opportunities for hiking, backpacking and horse riding. This park is 10 miles away from the city where the March of the Cherokee Indians took place in the first half of 1800. The Glenn House in the downtown region explains the past of the city. The Old St. Vincent’s Church dating back to the 1850s is still functional as people come here for mass on Sunday.
