As per US Census Bureau, Chesterfield’s total area is 84.8 sq. Km; out of which 3.73%25 consists of water.
Some parts of Chesterfield have been located in Missouri River’s floodplain; which are called Chesterfield Valley at present. Previously they had been called Gumbo Flats. The above-mentioned region had been submerged at the time of ‘Great Flood of 1993’. Since then, higher levees were built. This led to a lot of commercial development inside the valley.
Chesterfield of today comprises of loads of smaller communities of historical importance. They include Bellefontaine, the town of lake, Gumbo, Monarch, and Bonhomme.
As per 2000 census, population of Chesterfield was 46802. Its density was 573.5 per square kilometer.
