Kansas City lies at the convergence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers opposite the city of Kansas in the state of Missouri. The city has a total area of 318 sq mi and a population of 447,306 making it the largest city in the state of Missouri.
The city has a humid continental climate with moderate rain and extremes of temperatures. Summers are humid and hot while winters are mild to bitterly cold. Autumn and Spring are pleasant with occasional thunderstorms.
The extreme weather and collision of the cold air from the mountains with the warm air from the Gulf of Mexico, makes the region prone to ice storms and outbreaks of tornados at times.
