Saint Charles is a city in and the county seat of St. Charles County in Missouri. It is the third oldest city to the west of the Mississippi which was founded in 1765. The city was the first capital city of Missouri from 1821 to 1826. In 1824, the first permanent German settler was Louis Eversman, who arrived and decided to stay in St. Charles.
As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.8 square miles, of which 20.4 square miles of land and 0.4 square miles is water.
As of 2009, the population is 63,644 people in St. Charles. And since 2000, it has had a population growth of 4.46 percent.
