The Katy Trail is a 225 mile of bike path and a recreation rail trail which runs in the way of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. The nickname, “Katy” is given from the phonetic pronunciation of “KT” in the abbreviated name of the railroad, MKT. Widely known as the Katy Trail, this is a Missouri State Park trail and one of the longest Rails-to-Trails trails and the American Discovery Trail. Most of these trails follow the north bank of the Missouri River. This trial creates a hard flat surface. This trial begins at St. Charles on the Missouri River and to the north bank of the river. This trail is open for use by joggers, cyclists and hikers year round from sunrise to sunset. At present, the trial has been expanded to include the corridor from Machens to St. Charles. Jefferson City comes along this trail. Other cities which come along the trail are Downtown Columbia, Boonville, Clinton and such bridges too.
