Walk through a piece of musical history in the original home where Scott Joplin, King of Ragtime, composed his phenomenal pieces. Located at 2658 Delmar Boulevard, this residence is regarded as the birthplace of ragtime, fathered by pianist Scott Joplin himself. The twinkling of Joplin’s compositions constantly drift through the air and can even be played by visitors on the exhibit piano. The house seems frozen in the time of Joplin’s reign, the early 20th century; it is lit by gaslight and features all the original furnishings to give visitors a taste of Joplin’s everyday life and the environment that inspired his pieces. Exhibits arranged throughout the house provide insight into the timeline of Joplin’s life and achievements. The museum offers guided tours hourly so you can get the most out of your visit for a reasonable price of $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for children. For tour information call (314) 340-5790.
