Reviews Missouri History Museum
Missouri History Museum
The Missouri History Museum is an impressive combination of the historical foundation, present conditions and future promise of the state of Missouri. With an educational mantra driven by admirable and steadfast core values, the Missouri History Museum provides a positive learning environment as well as an entertaining and interesting deviation from some other typical tourist activities.
Located at Lindell and DeBaliviere in Forest Park, the museum seeks to cultivate a sense of community and encourages empathy for the plight of our peers and those who have come before us. Through its constantly changing exhibits relating to Missouri’s legacy, the museum pulls from historical examples to set the standard for how to leave the world a better place for future generations, just as our ancestors did for us. This effort to exceed objective learning and truly inspire people is part of the Missouri History Museum’s mission, and is reflected by the moving and fascinating exhibitions you’ll find here. Some of the displays are truly remarkable, such as the replica model of The Spirit of Saint Louis airplane suspended from the ceiling in the Grand Hall of the museum.
The colossal building is an extraordinary piece of history in itself; the museum is housed within the Jefferson Memorial Building, which was built in 1913 to honor President Thomas Jefferson’s role in the Louisiana Purchase. The interior rooms lend themselves perfectly to special events rentals, such as weddings, receptions, private parties and meetings. The museum has an in-house restaurant as well as a catering service.
One of the best parts of the museum is that general admission is always free, although sometimes particular exhibits will have an admission charge. For a museum so rich in history and integrity, free admission is quite the deal, making for the perfect activity to add to your vacation or rainy-day agenda. For information, call (314) 746-4599.
