Pioneers, covered wagons and Indian teepees are all part of the extraordinary world recreated in the Museum of Western Expansion in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Located at 11 North 4th Street in Gateway Arch, this museum allows you to relive the travels of Lewis and Clark and indulge in the thrilling perils of 19th century pioneer living. Through a number of exhibits, displays and explanations from life-like "animatronic" figures, the museum unfolds the history of America’s geographic expansion and development before your eyes.
The museum also chronicles how this growth affected the Native American inhabitants who came before us, as well as the residual conflict and resolution. Part of this display is an impressive collection of Native American peace medals.
For more in-depth visits, guides are available to lead tours through the museum. Because the museum is part of Saint Louis’s famous Gateway Arch attraction, admission is included with the price of your arch ticket. Together, this collective riverfront attraction makes for an enjoyable and enlightening day of Saint Louis tourism. For information, call (314) 655-1700.
