Carr Square is a neighborhood in Saint Louis, Missouri bordered by Cass Avenue on the North, Cole Street on the South, North Tucker Boulevard and North 13th Street on the East, and North Jefferson on the West. The area is located on the northern side of Saint Louis.
Established in 1942, Carr Square is thick with United States history. Originally, Carr Square provided a neighborhood for immigrants who traveled to America in pursuance of the American Dream. The neighborhood was truly a cornucopia of ethnicities, including German, Russian, Jewish, Polish and later African Americans. During the civil rights era, the neighborhood was reserved for low-income blacks struggling against the racial injustices at play during that time period. The African Americans who lived here discovered a sense of unity and identity together that provided a needed feeling of belonging.
Since the cultural diversities of Carr Square’s youth, the neighborhood is now a well-rounded and eclectic mixed-income community. This area is bustling with shops, restaurants, businesses, housing developments and recreational areas. The community is constantly striving for social and economic growth and has many opportunities for business development to reach these goals. Constant regeneration projects make Carr Square an exciting place to witness a town’s growth.
