Sedalia is a city situated thirty miles south of the Missouri River in Pettis County.  It is the county seat of Pettis County. It is said that this city was at first occupied by the Osage of the historical American Indian tribes. The city was founded by General George Rappeen Smith.

In 1860, the population was 300 people. As of 2006, the population of this city was 20,669 people. By 2009, it is 20,862 people.

Sedalia is known for its typical temperate climate. It has four seasons. Spring is with rainy days and variable temperature, experiences cases of thunderstorms and tornadoes. Summer season is warm and dry with droughts occurring during many summer seasons. Autumns are cool and rainy. Winter season are cold with snowfall occasionally.

The annual average precipitation is 42.06 inches. The wettest month of the year is May with an average rainfall of 5.32
inches. July is warm with 90 degrees and January is cold with 19 degrees.
