Start your tour of Mobile at the Battleship Memorial Park which contains an aircraft pavilion, a USS Drum submarine and the huge USS Alabama Battleship.
The culture of the city can be explored at the Mobile Museum of Art and the Museum of Mobile. Historical buildings include the Oakleigh Historic Complex (a cluster of old buildings), Saenger Theatre (boasting a Greek mythological-style interior) and the Battle House Hotel (which is classified as a city landmark).
Mobile’s event calendar is dominated by the Senior Bowl football game in January, the Azalea Trail Run 10K Race in March and the America’s Junior Miss Pageant in July. Visitors can also enjoy live greyhound racing every night at the Mobile Greyhound Park.
The city is said to be the original home of the Mardi Gras Festival (which lasts for two weeks and ends just before Lent). The various floats and displays used during the festival can be seen at the Mobile Carnival Museum.
