The city Red Lodge is the county seat of Carbon County, Montana, situated at the edge of the beautiful Beartooth Mountains. The city has a total area of 2.6 square miles, all of which is land. It is located at 45°11′15′N, 109°14′55′W. The time zone is Mountain Standard Time. Red Lodge is located at an elevation of 5500 feet above sea level. July is the warmest month with an average maximum temperature of 79.20° F, while the coldest month is January with an average minimum temperature of 11.80° F.  The annual average rainfall at Red Lodge is 23.77 Inches.
The population in Red Lodge was 2,177 people in 2000, as per the census. The racial makeup of the city was predominantly White. Red Lodge was the country of Crow Indians until 1884. Slowly hundreds of immigrants- Finns, Scots, Irish, Italians and Slavs - came to settle down here. The coal based economy of the early days was replaced later with tourism, recreation and ranching. Red Lodge is a town where history is not a closed chapter but a part of the living present.
