Wolf Point is located in north- eastern of Montano in the wide and low valley of the Missouri River, just below the meeting point of Wolf Creek. It is situated on the high plains of eastern Montana. According to the United States Census Bureau, the total area of the city is 0.9 square miles (2.3 km) of its entire land. The city is placed on the north bank of the Missouri River and the southern part consists of the ancestral floodplain of that river with low lying hills overlooking the floodplain terrace. The climate of the city is normally cold with dry winters and hot summers and a semi arid grassland climate. The wettest period of the year is late spring and early summer. Thunderstorms are common in the summer season and sometimes a severe hail and funnel clouds or tornados occur. According to the 2000 census, the total population of the city was 3,024.8 people per square mile (1,168.4/km²). The racial make up of the city was 55.73% White, 0.04% African American, 40.52% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.34% from other races and 2.37% from two or more races and apart from this 1.61% are Hispanic or Latino population.
The wolf point is basically a refuelling point of the Indian Trading Post and in modern age is popularly known for its shipping centre which is known throughout the United States as "Wild Horse Stampede". The stampede is the most Montano oldest and best rodeo which is held every second weekend of July each year. Besides, this is the main trade centre of Northern Montano and the main line of the Burlington Northern Railroad which is served by Amtrak and Big Sky Airlines.
