Mountain Home is a city in Elmore County in Idaho. It is the county seat of Elmore County. Mountain Home has a total area of 5.2 square miles, all of which is land. This city was first incorporated in 1877 by William A Goulder who was the statesman newspaper correspondent.
At first, this city was called Rattlesnake and was the property of Mr. William Jackson. This city was originally a post office at Rattlesnake Station, which was a stagecoach stop on Overland Stage Line. This station was several miles east of the city. With the introduction of the Oregon Short Line railroad in 1883, the post office was moved to the present site of the city.
As per the 2000 census, the population of this city was estimated to 11,143. 4,337 of the population were households and 2,957 were families residing in the city. The population density was 2,150.8 people per square mile. There were also other races of people in the city.
