The Nebraska State in the United States has the Lincoln County wherein North Platte is a city and the county seat. This city is located where the North and South Platte River combine to form the Platte River. North Platte is situated along Interstate 80 in the Southwestern region of the state. This city is the main city of the North Platte Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area which comprises of the counties like McPherson, Logan and Lincoln. The large Bailey Yard of the Union Pacific Railroad is situated in North Platte. At present, the city is served by freight trains only and it is a railroad town.

The population of North Platte as per the 2000 census is 23,878.

The warmest month in North Platte is July with temperatures ranging from 60.2 to 88.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The coolest month is January with temperature varying from 9.9 to 36.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The precipitation is maximum during May which is 3.34 inches.
