Residents of the state are called ‘Nevadans’. The discovery of the world’s largest silver lode at Comstock Mine in 1859 led to the establishment of new cities, gambling and resort areas. This resulted in the formation of a casino and entertainment culture that exists to this day.
Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World. Apart from the casinos, one can get a glimpse of the world’s largest gold nugget at The Gold Nugget. The famous Mandalay Bay has one of the largest exhibits of marine life in the region. At the Grimes Point Archaeological Site, one can find trails with native petroglyphs and rock drawings dating back to 5000 BC. Also hitch a five-minute ride on the Aerial Tram which goes up to an altitude of 2500 m. The Lake Mead Desert Princess Cruise is a three level paddle-wheeler which is bound to bring back memories of the Old South.
Every August, car-racing fans flock to Battle Mountain to attend the exciting Pony Express 130 road rally. Reno Nevada events like the Reno Rodeo in June and the Great Reno Balloon Race in September attract thousands of guests every year. Also celebrate Nevada Day on 31 October with parades and a host of other events across major cities.
