Near McCarran Airport, Sunset Park might be glanced at once by incoming tourists and quickly forgotten. That is a shame, because in addition to its year-round fishing and 27-hole disc golf course, the park seems to always be playing host to a festival.
There's the annual model boat competition and the renaissance fair every autumn. The holiday Festival of Lights has recently outgrown the park, but it was the setting for the Indie Music Fest this spring and will welcome the Food, Fun & Faith street fair and King of the Carnival in September.
When everything settles down, the park is a great place to birdwatch, especially around the lake, and a fantastic place to see the sand dunes that once covered large swaths of the Las Vegas Valley.
