Port Chicago Naval Magazine Memorial is near Concord in California, USA.
This site is of military as well as historical significance. The Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial, set up on 28 October 1992, marks the site of the death of 320 people at a mysterious explosion on one of the munitions ships at Port Chicago on 17 July 1944. The port was also of great military importance during the Second World War. It is necessary to make a reservation to visit this national memorial.
After paying a visit to this site, tourists can make a trip to one of the nearby attractions like the John Muir National Historic Site which houses the bungalow of the famous playwright and environmentalist John Muir. The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail would be a great place to experience a diverse landscape and a variety of wildlife.
