The Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial, set up on 28 October 1992, marks the site of the death of 320 people at a mysterious explosion on one of the munitions ships at Port Chicago on 17 July 1944. The port was also of great military importance during the Second World War. It is necessary to make a reservation to visit this national memorial.
