The State House is the oldest State capital where the first legislature meets were held in its original chambers in 1819. This State House was constructed during the period from 1815 to 1818. The legislation picked Concord for building the State House in 1816. Granite was used to build this historic building by the inmates of the State Prison. The cutting, shaping and the facing of the stone was also performed by them.
