Belmar is a borough which is situated in Monmouth County in New Jersey in United States. Belmar was originally known as Ocean Beach borough and was incorporated by this name in 1885. In 1889, it became the city of Elcho borough and after a few weeks it got changed to the city of Belmar Borough in 1889. In 1890, this city acquired its present name, Borough of Belmar.

As per the United States 2000 census, the population of this borough was 6, 045 people.  By 2009, the population estimates to 5, 927 people.

As per the US census Bureau, this borough has a total area of 1.7 square miles, of which 1.0 square miles is land and the remaining 0.7 square miles is covered with water.
