Edison Township is a township which is situated in Middlesex County in New Jersey. Originally Edison was incorporated as Raritan Township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1870.
As per the United States 2000 census, the township had a total population of 97,687 making it the fifth largest municipality in New Jersey. Currently Edison is one of the fastest growing towns in New Jersey and is primarily a middle class and upper middle class community with more than 75 communities represented. As per the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 30.7 square miles of which 30.1 square miles is of land and 0.6 square miles is water.
The annual average precipitation at Edison is 48.78 inches with rainfall evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is July with an average rainfall of 4.97 inches. During the summer the temperature is 21 degrees Fahrenheit and winters have 18 degrees Fahrenheit.
