Livingston is the township situated in Essex County in New Jersey. Incorporated in 1813 as a township, Livingston was created by amalgamation of seven distinct areas. The township was named after William Livingston, the first Governor of New Jersey. This township is a part of the New York metropolitan area.
As per the US Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.1 square miles, of which land is 13.9 square miles and water is 0.2 square miles.
As per the US Census of 2000, the township had a population of 27,391 people. The population came to 27,600 people in 2009, and comparatively, it was a 1.61 percent of population growth from 2000 census.
