Paterson is located in the Piedmont region between the Appalachian foothills and the coastal plain. It has a humid subtropical climate. The summers are very warm to hot and humid while the winters are often cold, but milder.
Snowfall could occur from mid-November to March. Paterson is known as the "Silk City" for its prominent role in silk production during the later half of the 19th century. Peterson being a melting pot of different nationalities has made it rich in cultural diversity.
Promise of work in industries and other reasons made people migrate towards the county. The city itself is divided into various neighborhoods where people from different ethnic backgrounds live.
