Deming is located 97 km to the west of Las Crucas. It is considered to be the county seat and the principal town of Luna County.

The city was named after Mary Ann Deming who was the wife of the The Big Four rail road industry. Initially it was also called as “New Chicago”. The reason behind this nick name was that the city was suppose to develop drastically with the railroad usage and would be a replica of Chicago, Illinois.
As Deming is located in the Upper Chihuahuan, the summers over here are quite dry and breezy. But winters are considered to be the comfortable climate to visit this place.
The city has an estimated population of 14,116 people.
