French Quarter

The French Quarter is a famous and old region in the city of New Orleans which was founded in 1734.
This district is a National Historic Landmark as it consists of several historic buildings in its area.
The fire in 1794 destroyed many of the French colonial structures which were later rebuilt by the Spanish lords with modern configuration.
At present the French Quarter has a number of hotels, restaurants, bars, guest houses and commercial properties in its area. This area was not affected by the impact of Hurricane Katrina which destroyed several other areas in New Orleans.
Jackson Square is an open park in the centre of the French Quarter and has a statue of Jackson riding a horse in the middle of the park.
