Babylon was once known as Huntington South. It came into existence in the year 1872 as a result of the partition of the town of Huntington.

Community started developing when people from north and west started coming and settled here. Apart from Babylon village there are two other villages: Amityville located in the southwest part of the town and Lindenhurst located in between Babylon village and Amityville.
