Brooklyn is one of the 5 districts of New York and is situated at the western side of Long Island. The city is named after the Dutch town Breukelen and is the most populous borough of New York City with 2.5 million inhabitants. There are 7.5%25 Italians, 3.8%25 Polish, 3.3%25 Irish, 2.9%25 Russian, 1.6%25 German and 1.5%25 Ukrainian population in Brooklyn. Although the city is a part of New York it maintains its distinct architectural heritage and culture. Certain ethnic groups and cultures predominate in this region. Brooklyn has 227 sunny days on an average with July being the warmest month and January the lowest. The city gets 44 inches of rainfall annually and snowfall of 24 inches.
