This is the 2nd largest public museum dedicated to art and was started in the year 1897. It holds a permanent collection of more than 1.5 million objects from contemporary art to ancient Egyptian masterpieces and African art. The museum is displayed in a 560,000 square foot Beaux Arts building in Central Brooklyn. The museum lies near the Brooklyn Botanic Garden at the border of Prospect Heights, Flatbush and Crown Heights neighborhood.
