The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most significant landmarks in New York. It was the largest and the oldest suspension bridge in the world, the first steel – wire suspension bridge and the first bridge to connect to Long Island. The construction of this bridge started in 1869 and took 14 years to complete.This bridge ranks as one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century.The impressive bridge spans the East river from Brooklyn to lower Manhattan and stretches for about 1.5 km.
