In New York City, there seems to be rows of buildings corner to corner and crowds of people at every turn; it is a rare gift to find a piece of land free of commercial development and overpopulation.
Spring Creek Park is lauded as the Brooklyn area’s largest undeveloped piece of land. Located in Northern Jamaica Bay, this park consists of over 75 acres wetlands—shallow salt marshes that extend between Brooklyn and Queens. As the park remains uncluttered by modern amenities and development, it is the perfect environment for various avian species, particularly great blue herons, egrets, red-winged blackbirds, pheasants and mallards, creating ideal bird-watching conditions for enthusiasts.
Other observable wildlife includes deer, raccoon and muskrat. There is no fishing or swimming in the area, so it mainly remains as homage to nature. With such a variety in the animal life, this destination is an environmental oasis in the middle of an urban jungle.
