Tourist Guide Montauk
Montauk is a hamlet and census-designated place located within the Town of East Hampton. This place lies in Suffolk Country on the South Shore of Long Island. The place has a total area of 19.8 square miles, out of which 17.5 square miles is covered by land and rest 2.3 square miles by water. Montauk lies at an elevation of 33 feet and falls under the Eastern Standard Time Zone (UTC-5). As per the population census of 2000, the place has a population of 3,851. Montauk is an important tourist spot and it features six state parks. This place is a perfect spot for fishing and is claimed to hold more world records in saltwater fishing. The Montauk Point Lighthouse is said to be the first lighthouse in New York State and the fourth oldest working lighthouse of United States. The Deep Hollow Ranch of the place is the oldest cattle ranch of the United States. Montauk adopted its name from the Montaukett tribe, an Algonquin speaking tribe residing in the area.
