The John F. Kennedy Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Located just wet of the Tobay Beach bayside along the southern border of the town of Oyster Bay, this 500-acre refuge is regarded as one of the most significant safe havens for waterfowl in the northeast. More than two dozen species of waterfowl make their homes here; it is also a densely populated habitat for various species of wading birds and ducks, and is a stop on the migration trail for numerous traveling waterfowl, hawks and falcons.

The centerpiece of the sanctuary is the Guggenheim Pond. The Guggenheim Pond finds inhabitants ranging from herons, egrets and ibis, to ducks, such as the uncommon black duck and American bittern. There are many nature trails that wind throughout the sanctuary to experience the vast wildlife. Each path can give you a different view every time, so the refuge is worth multiple visits. You can even rent a 15-person van to tour the ground. Before you experience all the natural riches John F. Kennedy Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary has to offer, visitors must obtain a pass from the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department.
