Greenwich Village is also known as the “Village”. This is a large residential neighborhood situated on the west side of Lower Manhattan and is home to large majority of upper middle class families. Founded in 1799, this neighborhood architectural style is that of mid 19th century revival, Italianate and Federal. This neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Once a large industrial park, this neighborhood was colonized by bohemians, radicals, artists and beatniks. Greenwich Village is also the main setting for television series, Friends as Monica’s apartment in Grove Street.

Greenwich Village is a large residential area in the west of Manhattan and was once a rural hamlet : it's widely considered as one of the main attractions in New Tork City.

This is the reason that the grid plan and layout does not exisit here.

Many of the streets here are narrow and are named rather than numbered as compared to the other modern vicinities. The residents of the Greenwich Village have a strong community character and are proud of the fame and history of the place. It is now home to several celebrities and actors.

The Washington Square Park is at the heart of this region along with many other parks and playgrounds.

There are a number of theatres, music clubs and cafes here.

The attractions in Greenwich Village are the Washington Square Park Arch, the Washington Square Park, the Forbes Magazine Galleries and the Union Square.
