The Apollo Theater situated in New York is known to be one of the most popular music halls in the United States.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theater is also one of the most historically important traditionally black neighborhoods in the United States. Founded in the mid-1800s by Edward Ferrero, a former Civil War General as a dance hall and a ballroom, it got converted to a theater in 1872. Post 1900, it got reopened with the name still intact. By 1914, a new building got opened in the heart of Harlem and was owned by many other Jewish families until the World War II. When it opened, it was one of the leading burlesque venues in New York.
