Founded in 1992, the Big Apple Greeter tour is a welcome visitor kind of program of its kind in the United States.
At present, there are more than 300 volunteer greeters who, each year, bring 7,000 visitors to 114 neighborhoods throughout the New York City. Since its inception, this tour has welcomed almost 100,000 visitors from almost 50 states and 124 countries.
The tour concept was started by Lynn Brooks, who thought it would be convenient to make tourists comfortable and to enable them to see the sights in a safe city.
