To begin with, it's important to mention that the city by all means promotes the Arts so there are plenty of great deals.
A must have in New York is the 2011 New York City Pass: it is the real starting point for a budget art trip to save even more if you get it online and, of course, dead easy avoid crowds and you'll have a full list of the many museums and art galleries around the city, where you can get in free of cash just like holding a credit card.
It is your key to the city, for instance you can get in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklin Museum, New York Sky Ride, Manhattan by Sail, Queens Museum of Art, Staten Island Museums, Tour at the Lincoln Center, Whitney Museum of American Art, Statue of Liberty, etc.
Well, there are over 55 sites to enter with the pass and you'll get benefits such as skipping lines, 1,000 USD worth of value and more! It costs for 1 day adult 80 USD and the rates vary till a 7 day pass adult at 175,00 USD which is well worth it, isn't it? With so much to see and to do if you'd have to pay full rate at every entrance it's bankrupting time! Also other benefits the pass offers is discount on theatre shows, discount at shopping at Bloomingdales and Macy's.
Remember that the Museum of Mordern Art (MoMA) has free entrance on Target Free Friday Nights, held every Friday from 4.00 to 8.00 pm. Unfortunately you can't buy ticktes in advance, so you'll have to wait for the line.
To enrich your portfolio or home you can buy great Original Cheap Art and it is surly big time going round exploring and fulfilling you're curiosity and aesthetic senses. Art Faires take place throughout the year; every October there's the well known Dumbo Art Under the Bridge: it's a three day festival and showcases hundreds of artists' studios and you'll dive in a very festive atmosphere with parades and live art installations very entertaining. A well rounded up art experience!
Open Studio Tours is a great way to save money on buying contemporary art avoiding galleries at once! You can get very good deals from the direct source; most of New York Artists Communities open their doors to the public and potential buyers at least once a year giving an unfiltered access to new works of art. It's a good point to come back over and over to the Big Apple! Even for this reason the art scene is in the spotlight in the city.
The Scope Art Fair represents as well a good deal for the budget buyer, in fact it is mainly targeted at a younger, trendier and less affluent crowd. It's held in March, the artists selling are up-coming as the galleries showing so by all means prices are low for definition.
Make sure to get the best the city has to offer artistically and it will catch you! You'll hit the city more then once!
