Established in 1870, the Syracuse University is a private research university which is situated in Syracuse in New York. Founded as a university, its roots can be traced back to a seminary founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1832, which became Genesee College. By 1870 Methodist ministers moved the college from Lima to Syracuse where it was chartered by the New York State as a university. The Syracuse University has athletic teams which are known as the Orange, where the participants participate in 20 intercollegiate sports. The admission to this university is competitive.
