Newark is the largest city in Northern New Jersey. It is also the county seat of Essex County. The city is home to major Corporations like the Prudential which is a well known business. The city is located 8 miles to the west of New York City and is near the Atlantic Ocean on Newark Bay. Originally formed in 1693 as a township, Newark was incorporated as one of New Jersey’s initial 104 townships by an Act passed by the New Jersey Legislature in 1798.
At present, the total population of the city is 275,000 making it the largest municipality in New Jersey and also the 64th largest city in the US. As per the US Census Bureau, the city had a population of 281,402 in 2006.
The annual average maximum temperature is 63.4 degrees Fahrenheit and the minimum temperature is 46.1 degrees Fahrenheit. The annual precipitation is 44.0 inches. Surrounded by residential suburbs to the west, Newark is also surrounded by the Passaic River and the Newark Bay to the east.
